As a man-made island connected by two roadways and a rail line, constricted transportation access to and from the mainland is one of our greatest economic threats. Cape Cod greets over 4 million visitors a year. In addition, tens of thousands of on and off-Cape residents and businesses commute across the Cape Cod Canal daily. In all over 35 million vehicles cross the canal bridges annually. Development and implementation of a plan to replace the existing Canal bridges is a major public safety and economic concern. Urging the Army Corps of Engineers, who maintain these bridges, and MassDOT who owns the connecting roadways, to move in a deliberate and expedient fashion is critical, and then securing funding, both state and federal funding once a plan is finalized.
We are part of The Fix Coalition, calling on Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, State and Federal officials to support the MassDOT plan for a permanent fix to the antiquated Cape Cod Canal area transportation system. Join us and click here to sign the petition today!
