Film on Cape Cod

Cape Cod has been featured as a backdrop in several major motion pictures, including the 2016 Disney film "The Finest Hours," the feature film "Year by the Sea," the 2012 Adam Sandler comedy "That's My Boy," the 2009 film "The Lightkeepers" starring Blythe Danner and Richard Dreyfuss, and the  2001 teen romance "Summer Catch" starring Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Jessica Biel. In addition to major motion pictures, several major television series have filmed episodes on Cape Cod, include ABC's reality hit "The Bachelorette," SyFy Channel's "Ghost Hunters" and HGTV's "House Hunters" and "If Walls Could Talk."

Cape Cod is also used often as a filming locale for many smaller independent and documentary filmmakers, and many of these films are showcased at our popular annual film festivals, including the Provincetown International Film Festival and the Woods Hole Film Festival.

In addition to our scenic locales, an added incentive for filming on Cape Cod is the Massachusetts Film Tax Credit Law, adopted in 2006. The law allows studios, major producers and filmmakers - who either shoot at least half of their movie or spend at least half of their production budget in the Commonwealth - to be eligible for a tax credit equal to 25 percent of their total spending in Massachusetts, inclusive of any salaries over $1 million.  Click here for the Massachusetts Film Office website to learn more.

The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce is prepared to assist you in finding the perfect public and private locales to film, and to connect you with the proper contacts to make your filming efficient. We will help to put you in touch with such resources as accommodations and dining, and can help you arrange the necessary permitting on county and local levels.
If you are interested in filming on Cape Cod, please contact Kristen Mitchell Hughes, Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce VP of Tourism Marketing, at 508-362-3225, ext. 531. Or email [email protected]g or [email protected]
